This spring MRSD students from the Class of 2020 successfully competed in the MBZ International Robotics Competition. The competition took place in Abu Dhabi and involved multiple challenges that tested the state of the art of unpersonned aerial vehicle (UAVs) interacting with their surroundings. Team R.A.M.S achieved 4th place out of 19 teams in the aerial block stacking challenge with their fully autonomous UAV system.  For the firefighting challenge, Team PhoeniX was the only team in the competition that successfully deployed water onto the fire targets using fully autonomous UAVs. Congratulations to both teams! Both of the teams’ robotic systems were developed as part of the MRSD capstone projects together with their faculty supervisors Professor Kroemer and Professor Scherer.
